We are so pleased that you are considering putting together a Member Project. The Neo Member Projects are designed to allow you to make the most valuable use of your Neo Membership. We want you to think of Neo as your company and we want Neo to provide you with a way to express your artistic visions.

I have produced two Theatre Neo membership projects and both were my original work.  A Fuckin' Christmas Carol in December of 2004 and Lucifer's Lament in September of 2005.  And you know what?  I did none of this by myself, not even close, I had an entire company behind me and for that I thank YOU.  When you bring a membership project to Theatre Neo you are not alone.  You have The Board of Directors and all of the facilities of the entire membership which contain an awesome array of talent and determination on your team.  Even if you've never produced before, you have the company resources willing to help you.  We're looking for those who want to step up.  Be the one to produce the next Theatre Neo membership project.  It is a brilliant artistic experience and there is no better utilization of your company. - Tom Bottelsen

The Requirements

• Any member in good standing (up to date dues) may create a Member Project.
Any member in good standing may direct a Member Project (i.e. the director does not have to be a director member of the company)
The Member Project can be a scripted play, one person show or improvisational piece.
There are no minimum requirements for number of actors involved

What Neo Provides

A Member Project will run one night a week alongside the Neo mainstage production and will, with minimal alteration, use the mainstage production’s sets and lights.

Theatre Neo will provide minimal financing for the project. Neo will provide funds for:

Theatre Rental: Neo will pay for the rental of the theatre space for one performance per week for 4 weeks.
Salaries: Neo will pay for up to 6 actors salaries - any additional salaries required will come from the Producers
Other Expenses: Neo will pay for up to $200 of additional expenses. This money could be for postage, postcards, props etc. Producers will be required to submit receipts in order to be reimbursed for these expenses.

The producers of the Members Project will be expected to raise the funds for the following:

Rights - if applicable
Publicity
Costumes, props
Additional actors salaries (if necessary)

How the Process Works

For Scripted Properties (Plays)

1) All Neo productions (and Member Projects) must be first presented as a reading.

Contact a board member to schedule a slot for you in the regular Neo Reading series.
At your reading a minimum of 10 Neo members must be present (including the cast) and must vote on the piece. In order for a piece to be considered for production the reading must get a majority of “yes” votes.

2) Please keep in mind that the reading series is not for projects that you “might” like to see on stage or that you just want to try out or hear. These should be scripts that are ready for production (or will be ready with minor tweaking) and projects that you yourself are willing to step up to the plate for and produce or co- produce.

3) After your piece is read and has received the necessary number of “yes” votes. You will need to:

a) Put together your production team (producer(s), director)
b) Create a proposal (budget, etc.) - the Board will provide you with a sample budget and any other necessary material.
c) Present your proposal to the Neo Board. The Board will review your proposal for viability and make every effort to find a place for the project in the current or upcoming season.

4) If your project is selected for production you will be assigned a slot in the season. At that time you (and/or your production team) will need to make an effort to be in regular contact with the producers of the main stage show regarding sets, rehearsals, lighting plots etc.

You will also be provided with a Project Liaison from the Board who will oversee your project.

For Unscripted Projects (Improv, performance pieces etc.)

1) After you have fleshed out your idea you will put together your production team (director, producer etc.)
2) Create a proposal (budget, etc.) - the Board will provide you with a sample budget and any other necessary material.
3) Present your proposal to the Neo Board. The Board will review your proposal for viability and make every effort to find a place for the project in the current or upcoming season.

We assure you that you will have the full support of the Neo Company and many hands to assist and guide you toward the realization of your vision.
